Last week, JB’s Town Planning team had morning tea with Tiana Hill, winner of Jensen Bowers’ 2016 Urban and Environmental Planning Prize, to congratulate her on this outstanding achievement.

The annual JB prize, now in its second year, is awarded to the highest-achieving third-year Urban and Environment Planning student, studying at Griffith University.

Tiana who is studying a Bachelor of Urban and Environmental Planning (Honours), received $500 prize money in recognition of her impressive GPA (7.0) result, and will soon undertake work experience to learn from JB’s most skilled Town Planners.

Tiana plans to put the prize money towards her further education expenses.

“This prize money will help me a lot in providing much needed financial support for my future studies”, the Honours student said.

JB Planning Manager, Mr Ben Haynes, said the award represents JB’s ongoing commitment to support and mentor the next generation of Planners.

“At Jensen Bowers, we have a proud history supporting some of the best and brightest in our industry”, Ben said.

“On behalf of the entire team at Jensen Bowers, we would like to once again congratulate Tiana and we look forward to seeing her in the office for work experience soon”.

The JB team had a great morning on the Gold Coast last Thursday, demonstrating Jensen Bowers Group’s Drone and 3D High Definition Laser Scanning capabilities and discussing their various applications. Clients eagerly looked on as the Drone flew and mapped the surrounding parklands while the Scanner created a 3D cloud data set of surrounding features.

Jensen Bowers’ team of surveyors have been providing Laser Scanning and UAV survey solutions for a number of significant projects throughout Queensland. Smart technology is combined with traditional surveying methods to offer clients real-time data that is captured quickly and safely and with more accuracy.

A Brisbane demonstration date will soon be announced, however if you are interested to learn more about JB’s geospatial service offerings, contact Scott Morrison or Wayne Geradts on 3319 4933.

Jensen Bowers is excited to be part of a new $96 million mixed-use development comprising twin 15 storey towers at Upper Mt Gravatt in Brisbane.

Developer, Raykong Property, have proposed a 174 apartment complex on a 3154sqm residential parcel at 7-15 Cremin Street.

If approved, the project’s towers will be the highest in Upper Mt Gravatt and will offer sweeping views of the surrounding area and east to Moreton Bay.

The proposed towers are ideally located to major retail, education, employment and transport hubs, and will incorporate retail and commercial precincts.

The development will also feature rooftop communal facilities for residents including a swimming pool, outdoor cinema, private dining room and a barbecue area, as well as a shared basement and podium level.

Brisbane City Council is expected to make a decision on Raykong’s development application within two to four weeks.

Committed to providing the highest level of technologically advanced geospatial solutions, Jensen Bowers offers high definition 3D laser scanning surveys and UAV  (fixed wing and drone aircraft) solutions that can significantly reduce time and cost.

The use of smart technology, combined with traditional surveying methods, allows for real-time data to be captured quickly and safely and with more accuracy and provides more control in delivering cost-effective projects.

High Definition 3D laser scanning surveys deliver highly detailed 3D point cloud and modelled data for use across multiple disciplines including engineering and architectural designs. The 360° field of view enables complete site coverage and substantial simultaneous data collection beyond the immediate area of interest, often eliminating the need for additional site visits.

Jensen Bowers clients request laser scanning for:

  • Engineering (civil, structural, mechanical and electrical) and architectural data collection;
  • Building Information Modelling (BIM);
  • Detailed structural element location for residential, commercial and industrial buildings;
  • Stockpile volumes;
  • Rail, roads, bridges and tunnel detail; and
  • Reverse engineering.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) solutions enable photography and traditional surveying to be completed on site in a single day. Together with photogrammetric software, Jensen Bowers can generate 3D mapping of a site to a suitable accuracy, leading to invaluable, high quality, topographical data.

Jensen Bowers uses a UAV for:

  • Digital Elevation Models (DEM);
  • Environmental and Agricultural Mapping;
  • Volume Calculations;
  • Infrastructure Inspections;
  • Sales and Marketing Imagery;
  • Photography / Video;
  • Rectified Ortho-photos; and
  • Dilapidation Survey.

Jensen Bowers were commissioned by the RNA and Lend Lease to accurately locate and map the Brisbane Showgrounds drainage tunnels for planning, architectural and engineering design purposes.

The Brisbane Showgrounds drainage tunnels are significant underground drainage structures which service the Spring Hill and Victoria Park stormwater catchment areas.

Constructed by manual excavation techniques in 1887 the heritage listed drainage tunnels traverse under the Brisbane Showgrounds and discharge stormwater, from the surrounding catchment areas, into Enoggera Creek, Bowen Hills.

The tunnel network comprises of the main RNA drainage tunnel and the interconnecting Victoria Park drainage tunnel being a total length of 750m and 120m respectively.

The Brisbane Showgrounds is currently undergoing a $2.9 billion regeneration programme which involves the design and construction of new roads, built form and open space/entertainment areas. Built form construction projects includes retail, commercial, hotel and residential building precincts.

Strategic planning teams, designers and engineers require the accurate location and cross sectional data of the tunnel. The position of the tunnel is also critical for early works site investigations and construction. Ultimately bored piers, columns and bridging slabs/beams will be built in the vicinity of the tunnel and these structural items need to be designed to maintain the structural integrity and serviceability of the tunnels.

As a participating member of the Queensland Government’s ‘Safety Leadership at Work Program’, safety was paramount during the project. Our surveyors completed confined space training and a team of recovery rescue professionals where employed to assess the confined space and air quality while continuously monitoring the wellbeing of the surveyors, the weather and local water discharges. With only one access chamber servicing the tunnels communication was maintained by air horns when two-way radios, with repeater stations, become ineffective.

Jensen Bowers successfully delivered the data on time and within budget for the location of the Brisbane Showgrounds Drainage Tunnels in Detail Plan and 3D CAD formats. The position of the Clem 7 and Inner City Bypass Tunnels where plotted from as-constructed data and included in the data sets.

Brisbane’s skyline could soon be home to a new 60 storey apartment building at 195 and 199 Elizabeth Street in the CBD.

Jensen Bowers’ team of town planners lodged the development application with Brisbane City Council last month.

The planned residential tower, designed by leading architectural firm Rothelowman, includes 248 apartments and three storeys of commercial uses.

A unique feature of the proposed tower is the inclusion of a mechanical car stacker which will automate the parking of 110 vehicles, a first of its kind for Brisbane.

The development combines technological innovation with a world class design that celebrates Brisbane’s renowned subtropical climate. The podium design features undulating building layers that will be covered in leafy, sub-tropical vegetation.

The approved building will revitalise the surrounding Elizabeth Street precinct.

The Brisbane City Council is expected to make a decision within 6 months.
