Jilalan Rail Yard
- Track Location & Geometry Survey
- Detail & Feature Survey
- 3D High Definition Laser Scan
The Jilalan Rail Yard is located in Sarina Qld, west of Mackay.
It provides maintenance and service to the trains that haul coal on the Goonyella coal supply chain. The supply chain stretches from Central Queensland’s Bowen Basin mines to the coal terminals at Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay near Mackay on the North Queensland coast.
Expansion of the Jilalan Rail yard includes storm-water drainage upgrades, two new bypass tracks, two provisioning tracks, a provisioning facility and a wagon maintenance facility.
Aurizon engaged Jensen Bowers to carry out professional surveying services using innovative rail location methodology to meet a planning and engineering design deadline.
This involved mobilising to site within 24 hours from client authorisation and the use of the GEDO Rail Trolley which simultaneously located the absolute location and geometry of numerous rail lines while a trolley mounted 3D High Definition Laser Scanner located the overhead wires, surrounding built form features and topography.
Jensen Bowers was able to complete the surveying component of the project “on-time” and within “budget” while working in an active rail environment by liaising with Aurizons’ Rail Yard Controller, Track Protection Officers and train schedule.
